Vale da Pinta Course

Located between Lagoa and Carvoeiro, Vale da Pinta has been 8 times consecutive host of the European Seniors Tour Qualifying final, and is rightly respected not just for its playability and challenging layout but for outstanding levels of beauty and enjoyment. Designed by the famous American golf course architect Ronald Fream and inaugurated in 1992 Vale de Pinta has earned its place as one of the best designed courses in the Algarve and in Europe. The fairways are Bermuda grass, and it has strategically placed sand bunkers, and greens clad in Pen Cross Bent grass. Not to mention ornamental lakes in a rolling terrain dotted with carob, fig, almond and olive trees (including one olive tree over 1200 years old!).

Gramacho Course

After his success designing the Vale de Pinta course, Ronald Fream teamed up with the former world No. 1 Nick Price to create the unique design of Gramacho. With 18 holes and 27 greens, plus numerous different tee points, players are able to enjoy the same course time and time again but always with slightly different challenges.
Having hosted the Portuguese Ladies Open on a number of occasions Pestana Gramacho is recognized as a championship course enjoyable and playable even by those with a higher handicap.
Apart from the fantastic golf design, Ronald and Nick managed to incorporate the traditional landscape by utilizing the natural stone outcrops, historical dry stone walling and existing ancient trees with some artfully sculpted lakes and bunkers. The effect is a wonderful journey through the countryside.

Vale da Pinta Course

A par 71, the Pinta Course opened for play in 1992, and has earned a reputation for its excellent condition. The Bermuda grass has been imported to make sure that the fairways are always in the finest condition, and the Penn Cross Bent greens are excellent. Each of the par 4 and par 5 holes are doglegs, putting a major emphasis on accurate drives. There are two ornamental lakes on the course affecting holes 1, 7, 8, and 9.

Gramacho Course

Its sister course, Gramacho, is an 18 hole championship course also located at Carvoeiro Golf Club. Previously a 9-hole course, it was extended to 18 holes in 2002. The original 9 holes (1-4 and 14-18) were designed by Ron Fream of Golfplan USA and have wide fairways and two different greens available. The newer 9 (holes 5-13) are narrower. It is a par 71 and is 6107 metres long. All par 4s and 5s, like the Pinta Course, are dog-legs.
